Talking Times Tables
2 minutes/call, 5 calls/week
Testimonial: My son struggles with concentration, and to get him to sit down and do any work with me is a battle. Talking Times Tables is a genius idea for children like him! - Charlene, mum to Max (age 7)

Tables Trouble?

If you already know you want to sign up for a trial, this button is for you!

Here's the Rub

Learning the times tables should be straight forward, but life really complicates things!

Alas, there are plenty of ways to accidentally not learn the times tables while the days slip by...

  • Firstly, you have to remember to practise every day!
  • Then you have to cajole cooperation from a child who would rather be doing something else...
  • And then you have to pace the learning so it doesn't all end in tears!
  • We teach the times tables using 2 minute daily phone calls
(to old fashioned phones - with no screens to argue over!)

  • Our phone calls do the remembering for you.
Set up 5 calls per week at times that suit your schedule. Then the phone will ring whether you've remembered or not!
  • The ringing phone starts the lesson, and your child runs to answer it (which saves you some nagging!)
  • Lessons are paced for incremental learning - so children always feel capable and proud of their progress.
  • Plus, you get some distance from the task at hand - which means, if your child needs help, you can join in with them, rather than being the one giving the orders.

Your child will start memorising the tables straight away - preparing them for anything their maths teachers can throw at them!

Right now, and for Free :)

Find out exactly how we teach children a times table, then teach them how to answer individual questions asked in a random order.

Testimonial: This has been invaluable lately. At first, I was slightly skeptical thinking “I can do that”, but the problem is, I don’t. Having this incoming scheduled and personalised call really helps to set the rhythm required to fully learn the times tables. With handy worksheets and a flexible online platform to change our needs, this has really helped us. My daughter is enjoying her daily call and loved the summary speed round today before she moves on to the next set of times tables! Thank you for putting this together for all those modern mums trying to juggle so many things. - Katie B, Mum to A. (9)

Testimonial: My Year 4 daughter has ADHD and was a very reluctant times tables learner. Talking times tables has been a game changer. The short daily lessons and novelty of getting her own phone call have felt manageable to her and it has hugely built up her confidence. She has gone from struggling with the 3 x table to being able to answer any times table to 12 and possibly being on track to pass the year 4 times table screening which 3 months ago did not feel like an achievable goal. (For me, it’s been great that the times tables practice takes care of itself every day without me having to remember to do it!) - Louise S, Mum to E. (9)

Sing-Song Chant

We teach times tables using a sing-song chant. Quick, catchy, and easy to recite! Here's the 3x table being sung by my 8 year old.

Testimonial: More cost effective than a tutor and great value for money. I would highly recommend this to anyone. - Charlene C, Mum to M. (7)

Details Details!

Here's how the programme works
  • We teach each times table as a sing-song chant, building up slowly over two weeks of short easy lessons.
  • Then we teach children how to 'sing the answer' to multiplication questions.
  • In total, we focus on each times table for 4 weeks.
This is a good pace for most children. If they learn different times tables too quickly in succession, they end up getting very muddled in the middle!
  • Lessons then recap all the tables learned so far, before moving on to the next times table.
  • Each worksheet covers exactly what was taught in the corresponding call, and takes only a few seconds to complete.
  • The calls are so short, and the worksheets so quick, that children learn almost without noticing!
Trial for 7 days for £1.
Then it's only £3.50/week for:
  • Cheerful, engaging phone calls (2 mins a day, 5 days a week)
  • Daily worksheets to reinforce what was learned on the call
  • Steady progress with lots of repetition

Testimonial: After 3 months of phone calls, my reluctant 9 year old seems to have taken off with her times tables this week! She now has the confidence and motivation to play times tables apps on her tablet and is doing all the tables up to 12 - something she wouldn’t go near before. I don’t think we’d have ever got to this point without talking times tables giving her the kick start! - Louise S, Mum to E. (9)

What's The Plan, Stan?

So... Do you have a plan for times tables practice this week?

If you don't have a workable plan to help your child learn their times tables this week, get something in place asap.

Children need frequent practice to learn their times tables, and it won't happen by itself.

  • You need a 'practicing plan'
  • You need to start now!
  • You need to keep going, every day, week after week.

Putting your plan into action can be a challenge... but that's where this programme comes in!

You get to hand over the responsibility to us for a while :)

Don't let the days slip by!

Two weeks from now, you'll wish you'd started today...

FAQ
What phone numbers do you use?

All calls are made from UK landline numbers, but they're auto-dialled by the Talking Times Tables system.

For safeguarding reasons, these phone numbers do not accept incoming calls. Please use the contact form in your control panel to get in touch.

Our current phone numbers are:

  • +44 (0)1883 212 039 - this will show as a call from Caterham, Surrey.
  • +44 (0)1538 542033 - this will show as a call from Kettering, Northants.
  • +44 (0)1473 379526 - this will show as a call from Ipswich, Suffolk.
Are all the lessons pre-recorded?

Yes, all lessons are recordings - you can listen to a sample from the website.

Your child will never be called by a real live person.

A computerised voice will ask for your child by name (and will probably mangle the pronunciation - sorry!)

How many calls? What time of day?

You can receive up to 5 calls a week with your subscription.

You need to schedule the calls yourself from within your control panel.

If you schedule the calls at the same time every week day, it will help you to get into a routine.

What if my child can't keep up?

If you think your child needs a bit more practice at any stage in the programme simply log into your account and set their next lesson (using the drop-down list) to be a bit earlier in the programme.

What happens if I miss a call?

If you miss the call for any reason, the system will phone you again within 5 minutes.

If you miss the second call, the system will stop harassing you, and you'll be called with the same lesson at your next scheduled time.

What happens when I'm on holiday?

If you're going on holiday, set your dates in your control panel so that you don't have an answerphone full of messages from Recorded Me on your return!

How do I get the worksheets?

When your child starts a new times table, the worksheets for that table are emailed to you as a pdf document.

You can also download worksheets from within your Talking Times Tables account.

It's best to print the worksheets and keep them near the phone, with a pencil, ready for daily use.

The worksheets can also be completed online, within your Talking Times Tables account.

Can I have multiple children on my account?

You can have as many children as you like, but each will need their own subscription.

Mobile or landline?

Landline! Every time!

For two reasons:

  1. You never switch it off or put it on silent - so it's going to ring when it's supposed to and your child will hear it.
  2. Your child can probably find it without your help.

Parents who link their calls to a mobile miss waaaay more lessons than the landliners.

Can I repeat / skip a lesson?

You have full control over which lesson is played on a call. Log in to your account and set the options.

Which table should I learn first?

The easiest table to learn is the 11 times table. If you have a young child (Y2 or early Y3), I would start with that one.

It has a jaunty rhythm and the numbers are very easy to remember.

Which is the hardest times table?

7s probably. Not so many familiar patterns in that one.

How do I add another child to my account?

View the students screen in your control panel. Click the plus sign in the children's names tab header.

How do I cancel my subscription?

View your account in your control panel. Switch to the 'Subscriptions' tab and click the 'cancel' button.
